Windows’ annoying sounds, put to some good use

I think all you of have used Windows Xp at least once, even if it was used at home or in school or anywhere else, it comes  with it’s everlasting annoying sounds.

Somebody thought of them as beeing cool, and put them to a good use.

Google is your friend!

That’s right! Google can help you in the most awkward situations, even if your intentions are bad. Like so, 2 thieves managed to crack a safe , just by searching google. They followed the steps  described in one of the search results and walked away with $10.000.

That should be a lesson to all those who ask for the most stupid things on IM cause of the single fact they’re too damn stupid to use a search engine.

Eluveitie – Slania

As I was saying two posts ago, Eluveitie officially released their third album yesterday (Feb 15th). I grabbed it last night and listened.

At first sight, it looks like there was alot of work put in it, because it has 13 tracks, but for my disappointment, the tracks aren’t put in a good order (except the first song which fits perfectly as an intro for the album).

After listening to the album, I can tell you that I’m partially disappointed. It’s not as good as Spirit (2006). Maybe it’s just a personal thought,  I’m not saying from starters “IT SUCKS”, but still it doesn’t get as high as their last album and is lower than what I was expecting.

The tracklisting:

  1. Samon    -   1:51
  2. Primordial Breath    -  4:21
  3. Inis Mona   -  4:11
  4. Gray Sublime Archon   -  4:23
  5. Anagantios   -  3:28
  6. Bloodstained Ground   -  3:22
  7. The Somber Lay   -  4:02
  8. Giamonos   -  1:25
  9. Slania’s Song   -  5:42
  10. Tarvos   -  4:41
  11. Calling The Rain  -  5:08
  12. Elembivos  -  6:30
  13. Samon (acoustic version)  -  1:26

I uploaded the song Primordial Breath below, a song that I consider being the best on this album

Feedback?

A big step

That I made a few days ago, when I decided to quit my day job. So, I QUIT! :hooray: I will get back to freelancing in a little while, after I finish my current projects (presentation websites). After my ex( >:) )boss finds a replacement for me, I will be indeed, free. Free as in not depending on someone. I think many might wonder why do I quit… well I can’t stand the stress and the feeling that I depend on someone anymore. It was a good experience from which a learned alot of stuff. I’m going to miss some things about the company but the bad aspects overwhelm the good ones so I won’t miss it so much. There are always financial (doh!) discontent and also unkept financial promises just to make me feel better.

In the end, let’s see what to future holds

How to recognise a good programmer

This is the title of a very interesting article that I ran into a few days ago when I was searching for a wordpress plugin. The article is about the incapability of managers and bussiness men to recognise good programmers when they are to hire one. Also advices are given how to spot the good ones.

Personally, I identify myself with 95% of what the author stated and I think that every programmer must have at least half of the good points that the author pointed out. Of course, there are certain exceptions but they occur from a diferent working environment to another.

The only thing that I disagree is the fact that a programmer who uses bleeding-edge technology must be better seen as a future employee. NOT really. Bleeding-edge technology are not necesarily good. In fact they are good, but it all comes down to the phrase “the right tool for the right job”.

I picked out the essential points here:

Positive indicators:

  • Passionate about technology
  • Programs as a hobby
  • Will talk your ear off on a technical subject if encouraged
  • Significant (and often numerous) personal side-projects over the years
  • Learns new technologies on his/her own
  • Opinionated about which technologies are better for various usages
  • Very uncomfortable about the idea of working with a technology he doesn’t believe to be “right”
  • Clearly smart, can have great conversations on a variety of topics
  • Started programming long before university/work
  • Has some hidden “icebergs”, large personal projects under the CV radar
  • Knowledge of a large variety of unrelated technologies (may not be on CV)

Negative indicators:

  • Programming is a day job
  • Don’t really want to “talk shop”, even when encouraged to
  • Learns new technologies in company-sponsored courses
  • Happy to work with whatever technology you’ve picked, “all technologies are good”
  • Doesn’t seem too smart
  • Started programming at university
  • All programming experience is on the CV
  • Focused mainly on one or two technology stacks (e.g. everything to do with developing a java application), with no experience outside of it

Eluveitie – Inis Mona

The band Eluveitie has just realeased a new video, Inis Mona, from their new album Slania which will be released on February 15th (Germany/Österreich) and February 18th (rest of the world).
For those who didn’t know, Eluveitie is a band from Switzerland that sing folk metal in their own style. And I say their own style because the managed to blend celtic and scandinavian influences, in a powerfull contrast with the growls of the singer, Chrigel.

Blog update

Today I added the smilies plug-in, of course, with a ton of smilies as usual. Most of them are taken from the other blog (on which they landed from craiovaforum) and most of them have glasses (guess why :boogie: ). I will add more things to it today, including the last.fm radio, which I missed so much  , and the google ad-sense.
Now I just have to think where to put it so it won’t get in the way… not that I earned alot from it (I can’t withdrawn anything yet) but mayb in a century I’ll get that $100 (kidding).
